PM Modi Announces Major Semiconductor Expansion, 5–8 More Plants Planned
India has begun semiconductor production at three plants, with five to eight additional facilities expected over the next seven to eight years, according to the Prime Minister.
NEW DELHI, August 15, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a major expansion of India’s semiconductor manufacturing programme during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, saying the country has already begun production at three semiconductor plants and expects five to eight more plants to come up over the next seven to eight years.
