Heavy Rain Forecast for Four Northern Tamil Nadu Districts; Showers Likely in Puducherry
Chennai, August 16, 2026: The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall in four northern Tamil Nadu districts over the coming days, with Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai expected to receive intense showers.
Thunderstorms and strong winds are also likely in several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Heavy Rain Expected on Monday
According to the latest weather bulletin, isolated heavy rain is likely on Monday in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai.
The rainfall may be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Moderate rain is also expected in several other districts, including areas along the Western Ghats, as well as Chennai, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore.
Puducherry May Receive Showers
Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is possible at isolated locations across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds are also forecast in parts of Ranipet, Vellore, Kallakurichi and other northern districts.
Tuesday Forecast
On Tuesday, isolated heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected particularly in Chengalpattu and Villupuram districts.
Several surrounding areas could also receive moderate rainfall.
More Rain on August 19
The weather department has forecast another spell of heavy rainfall on Wednesday, August 19.
Intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms are possible in parts of the Nilgiris, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Villupuram districts.
Surface winds could reach speeds of 40–50 kmph during thunderstorms.
Weather Advisory
Residents in areas covered by the heavy-rain forecast have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds.
Motorists should take extra care on waterlogged and slippery roads. People have also been advised to avoid standing under trees or near weak structures during lightning and gusty conditions.
Short-duration intense rainfall could lead to localised waterlogging and traffic disruptions, particularly in Chennai and nearby urban areas.
