NEW DELHI, August 15, 2026: Delhi was placed under a high-security alert for the 80th Independence Day celebrations, with more than 25,000 Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel deployed across the capital. A multi-layered security arrangement was put in place around the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation.

In his address from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi outlined the government's development priorities and announced initiatives focused on youth, technology and education. He also urged young people to help their families provide accurate information during the ongoing digital Census process.
DELHI TRAFFIC & METRO
The capital witnessed extensive traffic-management measures around the Independence Day venue. Several roads were restricted or diverted, while special arrangements were made for people travelling to railway stations, hospitals and other important locations.
The Delhi Metro started services at 4 AM on August 15 to accommodate people attending the national celebrations.
SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS
The security deployment included Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, with surveillance and security checks concentrated around the Red Fort and surrounding areas. Authorities also issued restrictions on vehicles and certain items near the celebration zone.
OTHER DELHI DEVELOPMENTS
The Delhi High Court has also recently directed authorities to address shortcomings in ICU-bed management and hospital information systems affecting 38 government hospitals, following an audit that identified gaps in emergency-response and hospital IT infrastructure.
