Revanth Reddy Announces Additional Pensions, Says Telangana Will Become Role Model for India
Chief Minister outlines welfare, irrigation, employment and social-justice measures during Independence Day address at Golconda Fort.
HYDERABAD, August 15, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the state government is working towards making Telangana a role model for the country, while announcing additional social-security pensions and outlining plans covering irrigation, employment, education and welfare during his Independence Day address at Golconda Fort.
WHAT HAPPENED
Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations, Revanth Reddy said the government had laid the foundations for the reconstruction of Telangana during its tenure and would continue working towards a stronger and more developed state.
He said Telangana's per-capita income had reached ₹4,18,931 in 2025–26, which he described as approximately 91% higher than the national average.
ADDITIONAL PENSIONS ANNOUNCED
The Chief Minister announced that pension benefits would be extended to an additional 2.25 lakh eligible beneficiaries.
He said the state currently provides social-security pensions to around 43 lakh people, with ₹30,089 crore disbursed between December 2023 and July 2026.
The newly sanctioned pensions will cover eligible widows, single women, persons with disabilities, toddy tappers, handloom workers and people suffering from specified diseases including thalassemia, sickle-cell anaemia and haemophilia.
IRRIGATION AND WATER RIGHTS
Revanth Reddy said Telangana would continue to fight for its rightful share of Krishna and Godavari river waters.
He said pending irrigation projects, including Thummadihatti and the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, would be pursued on a priority basis, with the stated objective of taking irrigation water to the last acre of the ayacut.
EMPLOYMENT
The Chief Minister said the government had completed recruitment of more than 72,000 people across various government departments.
He cited recruitment processes for Group-1, Group-2, Group-3, Group-4 and Mega DSC, saying the government had completed examinations, results and selections before issuing appointment letters.
AGRICULTURE AND FARMER WELFARE
Revanth Reddy said the Telangana government had spent nearly ₹1.70 lakh crore on agriculture and farmer welfare during the previous 32 months.
He presented agriculture and irrigation as key components of the state's long-term development strategy.
EDUCATION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
The Chief Minister announced that the government was formulating the Rohith Vemula Telangana Act, aimed at addressing discrimination against students in higher-education institutions.
He also highlighted the government's focus on education, residential schools and social-justice measures.
