Gun Accidentally Fires at Varanasi Airport, Two Staff Members Injured

Varanasi, August 16, 2026: Two airport staff members were injured after a passenger's firearm accidentally discharged at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi on Sunday, according to officials.

The passenger, reportedly from Azamgarh, arrived at the airport at around 9:30 a.m. to board an Air India flight to Mumbai.

Gun Discharges During Security Procedure

According to the information provided by officials, the passenger was handing over his firearm during the security process when the weapon accidentally went off.

The bullets struck the floor before hitting people nearby, leaving two staff members injured. The injured personnel were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigation Underway

Airport authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge.
