Team India Celebrates Independence Day Ahead of Galle Test
Galle, August 15, 2026: Team India marked the 80th Independence Day in Sri Lanka by hoisting the national flag at the hotel where the squad is staying ahead of its first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Shubman Gill and other members of the Indian squad participated in the ceremony.
Gambhir Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighters
Gambhir paid his respects to the freedom fighters who contributed to India's independence. The celebration took place before the start of the opening Test in Galle.

The BCCI shared a video of the Independence Day celebrations on its social media platforms, showing members of the Indian team participating in the flag-hoisting ceremony.
The Indian team then turned its attention to the first Test against Sri Lanka, which began in Galle on Saturday.
