Quit India Movement Remembered as Key Step Towards India’s Independence

Kurnool, August 16, 2026: Congress leaders in Kurnool commemorated India’s 80th Independence Day by remembering the freedom fighters and highlighting the historical significance of the Quit India Movement.

District Congress Committee president Boya Kranti Naidu, speaking at the party office, said the movement played an important role in India’s struggle against British rule.

Leaders Recall 1942 Movement

Naidu recalled the adoption of the Quit India resolution in 1942 and Mahatma Gandhi’s famous “Do or Die” call.

He said the movement intensified the struggle against British rule and became an important chapter in the journey towards Independence in 1947.

Rally at Kondareddy Buruju

Earlier, Congress leaders and workers organised a rally at Kondareddy Buruju in Kurnool.

They paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and participated in the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony before proceeding to the party office.

The programme was held as part of the celebrations marking 80 years of India’s Independence.
