AP Legislature Speaker Flags Delayed Answers to Members’ Questions
Presiding officers order time-bound replies to legislators and tighter monitoring of ministerial assurances ahead of the August 17 Assembly session.
AMARAVATI, AUGUST 16, 2026: Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu and Legislative Council Chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju have directed officials to ensure that answers to questions raised by legislators are provided within prescribed timelines.
The directions came during separate meetings at the Assembly complex on Friday, ahead of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature's monsoon session beginning August 17.
WHAT HAPPENED
The presiding officers reviewed administrative arrangements, member services, law and order and security preparations with senior officials, including Special Chief Secretary (Services) S. S. Rawat, Principal Secretary (GAD-Political) J. Shyamala Rao and Additional DGP Madhusudana Reddy.
A major concern was the number of long-pending answers to questions raised by members of the Assembly and Council.
The Speaker and Council Chairman said timely and clear responses were essential for the effective functioning and dignity of the Legislature.
TIME-BOUND ANSWERS
Officials were directed to strengthen coordination with government departments so that replies reach the Legislature within the prescribed period.
Where a department cannot provide an answer within the required timeframe, officials were asked to submit an explanation.
The presiding officers also directed officials to review long-pending questions and deal with them according to applicable procedures, including removing them from the pending list where warranted.
MONITORING MINISTERIAL ASSURANCES
The meetings also focused on assurances given by ministers and government departments on the floor of the House.
Officials were asked to establish:
Fixed timelines for implementing assurances
A monitoring mechanism
Regular reviews of pending commitments
Better coordination between departments
The objective is to ensure that assurances made in the Legislature translate into action rather than remaining unresolved.
MEMBERS' WELFARE ISSUES
The presiding officers also sought faster settlement of pending medical bills of legislators.
Officials were asked to identify administrative or technical obstacles and resolve them through improved coordination.
They also directed departments to examine pending proposals concerning an increase in legislators' pensions, including their administrative and financial implications, so that a decision can be taken without further delay.
SECURITY PREPARATIONS
A separate meeting with senior police officials focused on security arrangements for the upcoming session.
Ayyanna Patrudu directed Additional DGP Madhusudana Reddy to ensure foolproof security arrangements and prevent any untoward incident.
With a digital pass system being introduced, the Speaker directed that entry into the Assembly and Council premises be permitted only after passes are scanned and verified.
Security personnel are also to be trained in operating the system and closely supervised to ensure that only authorised individuals enter the premises.
SURVEILLANCE AND CCTV
Referring to previous security lapses, the Speaker asked police officials to identify and eliminate vulnerabilities around the Secretariat and Legislature complexes.
He called for:
Round-the-clock surveillance
Stronger CCTV coverage
Improved communication systems
Greater vigilance in open areas surrounding the complexes
OFFICIALS PRESENT
Assembly Secretary General Suryadevara Prasanna Kumar, Guntur SP Vakul Jindal, CM Security SP Bhadraiah and other senior officials attended the meetings.

With the Legislature scheduled to begin its session on August 17, departments and security agencies are expected to implement the directions on timely legislative replies, monitoring of House assurances and enhanced security before and during the session.
