The long-awaited Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project has received its final approval. Phase-1 will cover 46 kilometres across three corridors connecting Steel Plant, Gajuwaka, NAD Junction, Kommadi and the Old City.
Officials said tenders will be floated within three months and construction is expected to begin before the end of the year. The project is planned to be completed in five years and is expected to transform public transport in the city.
The corridors were designed based on traffic studies conducted over the past two years, prioritising the busiest routes in the city.
