The Vistadome coach on the Visakhapatnam–Araku route remains one of the most loved rail journeys in the country. The train winds through 58 tunnels and over 84 bridges, with glass roofs offering full views of the Eastern Ghats.
Start early: the train leaves Visakhapatnam around 6.50 am and reaches Araku by 11 am. Book Vistadome seats at least two weeks ahead — weekend seats sell out fast.
In Araku, cover the Tribal Museum, Padmapuram Gardens and a coffee plantation walk. On the way back, stop at Borra Caves — the million-year-old limestone formations are lit beautifully after noon.
